TAM Airlines has announced that it will be increasing the number of flights it offers to Rio de Janeiro from overseas locations.
Some $300 million (£184 million) has been invested to boost the frequency of trips to the popular Brazilian city.
Sergio Cabral, governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, commented: "I am very pleased to hear of the announcement by TAM Airlines to increase frequencies, which recognizes the global importance of Rio de Janeiro."
He added that the move would also help with business and tourism in the city.
A daily service will depart from Frankfurt from May 2nd onwards, while there will be two more weekly services from New York, taking the total up to six.
This will be added to the daily flights to Sao Paulo from Heathrow airport.
In 2014, there may be a surge in demand for TAM Airlines flights to Rio de Janeiro as Brazil is set to host the World Cup.
