TAM Airlines shows interest in Tap SGPS SA

Jet-setters considering using TAM Airlines may be interested to learn that the firm is believed to be monitoring the potential sale of Portugal's state-owned airline Tap SGPS SA.

Flights to Sao PauloThe interest being shown by the Brazilian carrier came to light in a piece for O Globo newspaper, which featured details of an interview with the company's chief executive officer Marco Antonio Bologna, reports Bloomberg.

He revealed that TAM Airlines is looking into investing in airports within its home nation.

Mr Bologna also asserted that the organisation is waiting for Portugal to announce that the airline will be privatised in the future.

Earlier this month, TAM Airlines stated that it would offer twice as many flights between London and Rio de Janeiro.

If the firm receives approval from the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency, it will increase the number of flights between the cities from three per week to six as of August 1st 2011.
