TAAG Angola secures funding for new Boeing aircraft

Travellers planning to book TAAG Angola flights may soon be able to take trips on the company's new Boeing aircraft.

Flights to LuandaThe Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) signed an agreement with the firm last week to provide a long-term loan of approximately $256 million (£116 million) to enable the Angolan carrier to purchase the planes.

With the funding, TAAG Angola plans to purchase new Boeing 777-300 ER planes with GE90 engines.

Dr Antonio Luis Pimentel Araujo, chairman of TAAG Angola, commented: "Ex-Im Bank's financing support of our acquisition of 777-300 ER aircraft is critical to TAAG's success in achieving a strongly competitive position in the Africa-to-Europe marketplace."

The newest additions to the carrier's fleet will be used to expand its intercontinental service, which is exclusively made up of Boeing planes.

Last month, Dr Pimentel Araujo said the aircraft, which has a maximum range of 7,880 nautical miles, is the "number one choice" for long-distance travel.
