SpiceJet may be renamed as the more generic "Sun Airways" following a massive investment by the owner of Indian television station Sun TV.

Growing low cost Indian carrier, SpiceJet is rumoured to be seeking Government permission to change its name to Syn Airways following the acquisition of a 37.5% shareholding by Sun TV Network's chief, Mr Kalanithi Maran.
The proposed name change will be the fifth for the airline. From its inception as M.G. Express, through ModiLuft, Royal Airways Ltd and most recently SpiceJet.
Mr Maran has announced plans to acquire a controlling interest in the airline if his offer to acquire a further 20 per cent stake through an open offer is succesful.
