SpiceJet, the Indian low-cost carrier, has operated its first flight between its main base in Delhi and Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
SpiceJet, which meets the Indian criteria for operating international services by having flown for five years domestically and having a fleet of over 20 aircraft, has opened two new international routes with the new Kathmandu flights operating six times each week using 189-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft and Chennai to Colombo, Sri Lanka operating daily using similar equipment. SpiceJet have also announced plans also to start further international flights to destinations such as Dhaka and Male during 2011.
