Spicejet logoSpiceJet, the ambitious Indian low fare carrier, has continued to expand its regional flight network with new flights from its hub in Chennai to Goa, Mangalore and Tiruchirapilly using newly acquired Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft. SpiceJet also fly to Kochi, Trivandrum and Vizag from Chennai. SpiceJet is pursuing a different strategy from its low fare competitors with a new focus on serving secondary cities from main hubs using the efficient Bombadier Q400 aircraft. SpiceJet currently have a fleet of 7 Q80''s with a further 8 on order. Alongside the new regional flights, SpiceJet have been developing two international destinations in Kathmandu (Nepal) from Delhi and Colombo (Sri Lanka) from Chennai. Neil Mills, Chief Executive Officer of SpiceJet said, " The highlight of this quarter was the successful launch of our Bombardier Q-400 operations, adding 7 new cities to the SpiceJet network. The initial response on all these routes has been very encouraging. We believe that the future of aviation growth in the country will be driven by connectivity to Tier-II and Tier-III towns from the metros. SpiceJet is well positioned to exploit the emerging opportunities in these rapidly growing and under served locations."
