Spice Jet is to operate a series of regional services from July this year, it has been revealed.

A total of 16 non-metro routes will be launched, with three bases located in the north, east and southern regions of India to service smaller cities, the Economic Times reports.
Chennai will also be a hub and the regional routes will transport passengers between two non-metros, or a metro and a non-metro.
Spice Jet plans to use the first of 15 Bombardier Q400 for the new routes and it is set to have eight of these aircraft in operation by the end of the year, the news provider continued.
Chief executive officer of Spice Jet Neil Mills said: "Of the 15 aircraft, we plan to have at least ten for the south Indian market and two each for the east and the north." The airline also operates the new-generation Boeing 737-800s with winglets and Boeing 737-900ER.
