Holidaymakers seem to be keen to book Air Europa flights to Venezuela and other destinations in South America, new figures indicate.
Data released by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in the World Tourism Barometer revealed that there was a 15 per cent increase in the number of international arrivals to the continent during the first two months of the year.
Across the globe there was a surge in traveller numbers, with arrivals exceeding 124 million in January and February.
This was an increase of six million compared with the data recorded in last year's UNWTO report.
At a special event in Istanbul, UNWTO secretary-general Dr Taleb Rifai commented: "These results confirm that despite many difficulties, the recovery of international tourism, which has been remarkably strong last year, has been consolidated."
In the latest World Economic Forum's Travel & Tourism Competitiveness report, Venezuela rose two places compared with its position in 2009.
