Soldiers exploits may encourage more to scale Kilimanjaro

Soldiers exploits may encourage more to scale Kilimanjaro

Flights to Kilimanjaro with Precision AirMore adventurous explorers may be tempted to book Precision Air flights to Tanzania in order to follow in the footsteps of four inspirational soldiers.

After months of training, Corporals Mark Fuchko, Dallas White, Lucas Mullens and Warrant Officer Quinn Beggs are set to scale the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro in the East African country.

This is no mean feat for the most daring of climbers, but the soldiers have all suffered horrific injuries while serving in war zones such as Afghanistan.

Indeed, Mr Mullens told CTV Edmonton that he was unable to walk for three months following 11 operations on his back after an improvised explosive device went off underneath his tank in Afghanistan in 2009.

"It detonated and buckled the floor; [it] crushed both my legs and my spine," he was reported as saying.

The quartet are attempting to reach the top of the mountain to raise funds for the Orthopaedic Surgery Centre at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak in Africa and the soldiers are unlikely to match the astonishing record time managed by Italian Bruno Brunod, who conquered the landmark in just five hours, 38 minutes and 40 seconds in 2001.
