Holidaymakers booking TAM Airlines trips to South America may want to ensure they schedule a trip to Sao Paulo in light of the comments of one expert.
Heather Carswell, spokesperson for Lonely Planet, observed that the metropolis - which is home to 11 million people - is often overlooked in favour of Rio de Janeiro.
She described the latter as easier "on the eye", but observed there are numerous attractions on offer elsewhere.
"Sao Paulo is known for its fantastic restaurants and nightlife and is home to a growing art scene," she asserted.
Among the sights she advised vacationers with flights to Sao Paulo to visit were the cultural centres, churches, museums and markets.
Ms Carswell added that the Banespa - similar to the Empire State Building - offers "fantastic views of the city".
Each year, movie fans from across the world head to Sao Paulo for the International Film Festival, which has been held annually since 1976.
