The introduction of a single tourist visa for nations in the East African Community (EAC) is expected to be in operation next year, which may mean Rwandair customers will have easier access to Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi.
It is hoped that the scheme will help boost the region's profile as a single tourism destination, which may mean those with flights to Kigali will be able to move more freely between the Rwandan capital and neighbouring countries, reports the Guardian on Sunday.
Under the current scheme, those who visit one of the nations in the EAC but who want to travel more extensively have to get their passport stamped at each border.
Sirili Akko, the executive officer for Tanzania Association of Tour Operators told the Independent East African News Agency: "The full impact [of the single tourist visa] would be felt even more if these countries pooled their resources and mutually marketed the region's rich attractions."
While in Kigali, holidaymakers may wish to visit the Kigali Memorial Centre before heading out of the city to explore the rest of the country.
