"Barrier-free tourism" promoted in the Philippines

The government in the Philippines has stated that it will be working to improve the facilities and services offered to disabled tourists, which may mean flights to Manila will be increasingly in demand.

Flights to ManilaPresident Benigno Aquino III recently identified tourism as a sector that will be vital for the nation's economic growth, reports the AFP.

The tourism secretary Alberto Lim revealed that businesses were being encouraged to extend the discounts offered to disabled Filipino customers to foreign travellers as well.

However, he explained that the goal was not to offer separate services, but to fully integrate disabled people into the country's tourism industry, a goal that could see a growing number purchasing Philippine Airlines flights in the future.

"This entails making our products suitable for persons with particular needs so that they may enjoy travel equally with everyone else," he stated.

While in Manila, holidaymakers may want to check out the Cinemanila International Film Festival, which gets underway next month.
