

Air Tanzania, the national carrier of the United Republic of Tanzania, which has recently restarted domestic scheduled services from its base in Dar es Salaam to Kigoma and Tabora has announced expansion plans which will put it in direct competition with independently owned Tanzanian airline, Precision Air. Air Tanzania currently have a fleet of two Canadian built Bombadier Q300 aircraft backed up by a Fokker 28 and CRJ200 both on lease from neighbouring Kenyan airline, Jetlink Express. Air Tanzania have already announced that they are in talks with an aircraft manufacturer to acquire up to a further 8 similar aircraft and plan to operate to Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Zanzibar early in 2012. Despite the global financial crisis, air travel is booming in East Africa with both government owned and privately financed airlines looking for growth in this region of Africa.
