Authorities in the Philippines are hoping to increase the number of visitors to the country to six million within the next five years.
According to tourism secretary Alberto Lim, the construction of 9,500 new hotel rooms will help the nation meet this target, reports the Associated Press.
Visitors to the destination on Philippine Airlines flights may also benefit from the new aviation liberalisation policy and the training provided to small businesses to improve their ability to take advantage of the improving tourist trade.
Last year, there were 3.5 million visitors to the archipelago, but Mr Lim asserted that in the first two months of 2011, some 670,000 made their way to the country on flights to Manila and other locations.
This represented an 18 per cent rise on the data recorded during the same period the year before, he noted.
Jet-setters who head to the country on Philippine Airlines flights this year may want to head to the capital's World Trade Center in December for the World Bazaar Festival.
