LAM announce Maputo to Luanda

LAM, the national carrier of Mozambique, has launched flights between Maputo and Luanda from 16th October 2009.
Lam will operate two flights per week, under the terms of an agreement signed Thursday in Luanda between Lam and Angolan airline Taag.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, the chairman of LAM, José Ricardo Viegas, who signed the deal along with Taag’s director of Commercial Planning and Management, Jacinto Júnior, said that opening up this route had been a necessity given the ties of brotherhood and friendship between the two countries. Viegas also said that the Maputo-Luanda route (still under development) already had a significant flow of passengers and thus there were political and economic advantages for both countries. LAM will operate the Maputo-Luanda route using two Embraer 190 aircraft, with capacity for 93 passengers each. Under the terms of the agreement signed, Taag will initially channel its customers to LAM, and in a second phase will also start operating on the route with its own aircraft as soon as the number of passengers increases.
