FLY540 ACQUIRES A CRJ-200 JET

Kenya's dynamic low cost carrier, Fly540, has acquired a Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-200 and its first regional route for the CRJ-200 will be from Nairobi to Entebbe. Fly540 Canadair CRJ-200The third anniversary of value for money airline Fly540 was celebrated with the acquisition of a 50 seater CRJ-200 jet. This sleek aircraft will be based at the airline’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport hub and will be easily recognised by its distinctive eye catching orange livery. Additional CRJ jets and turbo prop aircraft will join the Fly540 fleet soon to enable the airline to become a Pan African carrier.

Nixon Ooko, the Operations Director of Fly540 said, “Initially, the CRJ will be deployed on the Nairobi to Entebbe route and will reduce the flight time to 50 minutes. With a range of 1,815 kilometres CRJ aircraft will be the mainstay of the airline’s expansion drive in East and Central Africa.” “The CRJ will also strengthen our fleet to help reduce delays in our schedule. At present our on time performance has slipped to 87% but we expect this to improve to over 90% with the introduction of an extra new aircraft”

During this year, Fly540 has increased daily return flights between Nairobi to Mombasa, Malindi and Kisumu. The airline has also pioneered the opening up of new routes such as Kitale and Lodwar. Daily flights from Nairobi to Zanzibar are becoming increasingly popular and the Nairobi to Kilimanjaro route has been linked with daily services to Manyara and Serengeti. These meet the needs of holiday makers who want to combine game viewing at Ngorongoro and Serengeti with climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Fly540 commenced operations in November 2006 with a daily flight between Nairobi and Mombasa for local and overseas business and holiday travellers. The airline’s value for money flights won instant popularity and Fly540 now has seven destinations in Kenya with regional services to Entebbe, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro.
