Cambodia Angkor Air gets its owned first aircraft
New national carrier, Cambodia Angkor Air, has purchased its first aircraft, a brand new ATR-72 which is now flying between Phnom Penh and-Siem Reap.
Cambodia Angkor Air started operations in July 2008 and is a joint venture between the Cambodian Government and Vietnam Airlines. Before acquiring its own aircraft the airline has used three leased aircraft ,two ATR-72's and an Airbus A-320, from Vietnam Airlines. The airline operates five daaily flights between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap; three flights daily between Siem Reap and Saigon, and two flights per day from Phnom Penh to Saigon.
Cambodia Angkor Air has announced plans to buy more aircraft during 2010 including longer haul jets such as the A320 and new destinations in Japan, South Korea and China are under consideration.
