It's an amazing beautiful part of the world and if you don't fall in love with Southern Africa then you have no romance in your soul !
But yes, it's often a frustrating place to travel within, regional services don't have the punctuality records of European or US carriers and the unexpected occurrence (aircraft commandeered for President, tyres flat on re-fuelling truck, animals on the runway etc.) is always to be expected. So what's new this week ? Air Zimbabwe is grounded (again) due to striking pilots who haven't been paid; Air Botswana are dropping their Lusaka to Kasane service; South African Airways will hand their Jo'burg to Gaborone route to little sister, SAA Express; Lufthansa will soon launch a code-share service from Frankfurt to Lusaka, via Addis Ababa in co-operation with Ethiopian Airlines; Malawi is hit by violent protests so international aid is suspended; Air Namibia will get another N$1,2 billion over the next three years from the Government in yet another bail-out and the banning of LAM Mozambique from flying into Europe is criticised as being a protectionist move by Air France. I can't wait to go back ! (Use Alternative Airlines to book your flights, this is one part of the world where an expert flight booking will make a difference....)
