In 2010 Belgian carrier Brussels Airlines will launch a new regional African airline to be based in the Demorcratic Republic of Congo.
Brussels Airlines are planning to create an intra-African company, based in Lubumbashi in the year which sees the 50th anniversary of Congo's independence from Belgium.

The new airline ownership is due to be slpit equally between Brussels Airlines and Forrest Group, which is already involved in investement in DR Congo's mining sector. The company will initially fly a single scheduled service between Lubumbashi and Kinshasa route and then extend to other regional routes.
Brussels Airlines has also announced that it will start flying new routes to four new African destinations: Accra (Ghana), Cotonou (Benin), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and Lome (Togo) in July 2010 from its hub in Brussels. An additional Airbus A330 will join the Brussels Airlines fleet in July to allow for this network expansion to take place.
