A new Chinese airline, Tibet Airlines Co. Ltd,.will be launched in May 2010 and will be China's first airline to be based in southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region.
Tibet Airlines will have an initial capital of just over 40 million U.S. dollars and will be based at Konggar Airport in Tibet's capital, Lhasa.
The company is planning to develop regional and domestic routes with a planned fleet of up to 20 aircraft within the first five years of flying using specially modified Boeing or Airbus aircraft able to operate at the extreme altitudes of the region.
