One expert thinks a number of older people are choosing to have a break from work and take a gap year.

An increasing number of older people could be booking Air Europa flights to Caracas and enjoying a gap year travelling.

Adam Pembry, marketing co-ordinator at Gapforce, said his organisation has seen an increase in the number of mature individuals deciding to take a break and see some of the world.

While some have a gap year after university, before they begin full-time employment, others wait until they are older, he stated.

Because of the current nature of the jobs market in the UK, Mr Pembrey pointed out that a number of individuals take a sabbatical from work.

He said this gives them the chance to gain various different skills, such as becoming an expedition leader or getting their diving qualifications.

There may be several benefits to taking a gap year, as psychologist and author Dr David Lewis recently claimed travelling is the perfect way for people to broaden their mind and see something new.
