The airline business is complicated. Airline Code share agreements mean that you are never sure what airline will be operating the flight you eventually fly on and this has become accepted and acceptable. However it does make life complicated and never more so than explaining why LAM Mozambique Airlines, which for the first time has just appeared on the  EC blacklist of airlines which cannot fly in European airspace, is still able to operate scheduled services from Maputo to Lisbon because its twice weekly flights  are operated under a "wet lease" agreement with a Portuguese company, EuroAtlantic Airways.

We are experts in booking flights on lesser known airlines and specialise in helping independent travellers get to off the beaten track destinations so we keep a very close  eye on what airlines have restrictions placed upon them (please see the list below for more details) but travellers either booking these airlines directly or using less specialised agencies can't be expected the have our detailed insights.

If you have any doubt or questions about any of the airlines you're booking through us, please don't hesitate to call our experienced team of agents on 0871 222 9222 (UK Callers) who will be delighted to help.

List details 20/04/2011: The updated European list includes all carriers certified in 21 states, accounting for 269 known air carriers, whose operations are fully banned in the European Union: Afghanistan, Angola, Benin, Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon (with the exception of three carriers which operate under restrictions and conditions), Indonesia (with the exception of six carriers), Kazakhstan (with the exception of one carrier which operates under restrictions and conditions), the Kyrgyz Republic, Liberia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Sao Tome and Principe, Sudan, Swaziland and Zambia.
