Korongo Airlines, the new carrier based in Democratic Republic of Congo, has taken a massive step forwards with the receipt of the necessary permits to set up as an airline. Korongo Airlines, based in the nation's second largest city Lubumbashi, is 45% owned by Brussels Airlines which is part of the Lufthansa Group.
Korongo Airlines has previously announced that it will offer frequent services between its base in Lubumbashi and the capital Kinshasa plus international flights from Lubumbashi to Johannesburg using a Boeing 737 aircraft. Other destinations in the plan include Mbuji Maji and Kolwezi (domestic destinations) plus Kampala, Kigali and Bujumbura (international destinations), these latter destinations being in co-operation with Brussels Airlines.
