KLM have announced that following a a series of intensive testing during 2009, the airline is to become the world's first airline to use biofuel to in an aeroplane carrying passengers.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will transport a limited number of passengers on a Boeing 747 on 23 November 2009 in an aircraft powered by a mixture of camelina-based oil and kerosene jet oil.
The accompanying press release suggests that "Camelina biofuel has been proven to reduce emissions by as much as 80%. The jet will require no modifications when using the biofuel blend."
