Britons who have booked flights to Tirana should consider looking at a pre-paid travel money card to take with them on their break, it has been suggested.

David Bain, spokesperson for FairFX, observed that the products may prove to be "outstanding value" for those who are preparing to spend time overseas.

People with Albanian Airlines flights booked may find that using this form of plastic enables them to lock into the current interest rates, ensuring that they get the most lek for their pounds.

"If you exchange about £1,000 then you could actually save, depending on the rate at the airport, up to £100 which is quite a significant amount," Mr Bain observed.

He added that because there is a high cost involved in exchanging a significant amount of cash, those who get a pre-paid card could find they enjoy more competitive rates of interest.

According to research conducted by Sainsbury's Travel Money, British holidaymakers withdraw £14.2 billion each year from ATMs in foreign countries.
