Travellers could soon be heading much further afield - to the likes of Tehran courtesy of Iranair - as they attempt to find the best exchange rates.
According to James Yerkess, head of travel money at Marks & Spencer, people still want to head abroad with a substantial sum of money.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "Collecting a wallet full of notes gives you the first taste of your summer holiday."
He suggested shopping around for currency and making sure that the exchange bureau offers a range of denomination - which will make it much easier to pay for smaller items when you reach your holiday destination.
Mr Yerkess also warned that getting currency at the last minute - ie at the airport an hour before departure - could leave customers out of pocket.
A variety of currency is vital for those taking flights to Tehran, particularly as the Tehran bazaar is such a big draw.
