Individuals with flights to Moscow booked this year should consider hiring a guide while travelling around the city, according to actor and travel writer Nigel Planer.
In a piece for the Daily Mail, the star of The Young Ones noted that one of the main difficulties for tourists is the Cyrillic alphabet, which makes it hard for visitors without a grasp of the language to read menus and street signs.
However, he suggested that those who book Transaero flights may easily overcome this obstacle by investing in a guide to take them round the city.
Another advantage of hiring someone to provide advice on how to travel in the city and sights cited by the writer was that they often provide a good insight into life in the Russian capital.
"If your guide is that little bit older, all the better because he or she will remember the Soviet era and have personal stories to tell about what it was like," Planer observed.
Among the locations tourists may want to visit while in the city are St Basil's Cathedra in Red Square and Alexandrovsky Garden.
