Garuda indonesia gets new 100 seat jets for more domestic services

The rapidly developing , national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has announced plans to purchase 18 100 seater aircraft to facilitate expansion within Indonesia. The new aircraft, which will come from either Bombadier or Embraer, will replace the airline's current fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline will use the aircraft to fly on thin routes from its main bases to secondary destinations and to establish secondary hubs. Garuda currently has main bases at the international airports in Jakarta and Denpasar. Possibilities for secondary hubs in the future will include major cities such as Medan, Makassar, Surabaya and Balikpapan. Garuda at present has domestic services covering 31 domestic routes to cities across the country.

This expansion is in addition to continued operation of low cost subsidiary,Citilink which currently flies a fleet of five Boeing 737s .
