Garuda Indonesia gets low cost competition on Singapore to Jakarta

Garuda Indonesia gets low cost competition on Singapore to Jakarta

The re invigorated National carrier, Garuda Indonesia, now faces competition from Mandala Airlines, the Indonesian low-cost carrier part-owned by US firm Indigo Partners, which has launched two new international routes on 25 June.
Mandala Airlines uses the Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft to serve Singapore (SIN) from both the country capital Jakarta (CGK) daily and from Balikpapan (BPN) on the east coast of Borneo three times a week, on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Competition comes from Silk Air’s six weekly flights on the Borneo route, while on the highly competitive Jakarta service Mandala faces a total of 11 airlines, including the national carrier Garuda Indonesia.
