One of the home grown competitors to National Carrier Garuda Indonesia Airlines, Lion Air, has taken delivery of three Boeing 737-900ER aircraft as part of a 178 aircraft order.
The three new planes arrived in Indonesia's international airport Soekarno-Hatta on 13th December 2009 with another one due to arrive at the airport on December 22nd.
Lion Air is the first airline using the Boeing 737-900ER configured to carry 220 passengers in an optimum single-class layout. It flies at a range of 3,200 nautical miles or 5,900 kilometers. Lion Air is the only private airline authorized to serve the Jakarta to Jeddah route carrying Indonesian Muslim pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
