

Tehran Airport, called Imam Khomeini International Airport, is the home base of national carrier, IranAir, which operates international flights to Tehran from airports all over the world including: Amsterdam, Ankara, Bahrain, Baku, Bangkok, Beijing, Beirut, Cologne/Bonn, Copenhagen, Damascus, Dubai, Frankfurt, Geneva, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Istanbul, Karachi, Kuala Lumpur, London-Heathrow, Milan, Moscow, Mumbai, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Tashkent, Tokyo and Vienna.
Alongside Iran Air many international airlines operate flights to Tehran including form Europe, Lufthansa (Frankfurt to Tehran), Aeroflot (Moscow to Tehran), Alitalia (Rome to Tehran), Austrian Airlines (Vienna to Tehran), bmi (London to Tehran) and Turkish Airlines (Istanbul to Tehran). MahanaIr is an independent Iranian airline also based at the airport which has flights to Tehran from Almaty, Amritsar, Baghdad, Bangkok, Birmingham, Damascus, Delhi, Dubai, Düsseldorf, Istanbul, Muscat and Phuket.
There are two airports serving the city of Tehran with most flights that originate within Iran arriving at the older, but more centrally located, Mehrabad Airport. Iran Air is the main airline with Flights to Tehran from eighteen cities within Iran.
International passengers arriving on a flight to Tehran will land at the more modern Imam Khomeini airport which is 30km south of the city centre and will need to depart for their choice of domestic destination from Mehrabad airport which is close to the centre of Tehran. Currently the best way between the airports, however an extension to Imam Khomeini airport on the Tehran Metro may be possible in the future.
