Lying almost 1000 km (90 minutes flight) east of Ecuadorian mainland, the extraordinary Galapagos Islands – which inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution – are Ecuador’s best known attraction, home to unique, abundant and virtually fearless range of wildlife including marine iguanas, giant tortoises, whales, dolphins, sea lions, penguins and boobies.
Galapagos are a world of wonders with beautiful flora and fauna that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. They offer tourists the possibility of dazzling white sandy beaches, lava tubes, erupting volcanoes and sports such as diving with a rich marine reserve.
The islands emerged from the depths for millions of years as a result of continued eruptions of underwater volcanoes that pushed large masses of material to the ocean surface, forming the archipelago.
The flights to Galapagos depart from Quito with a stopover in Guayaquil en-route before heading to one of the Galapagos' two airports on either Baltra or San Cristobal.
