An increasing number of passengers are opting to travel on flights to Port Moresby and other locations in the Asia-Pacific region, recent figures indicate.
Data from aviation analyst OAG indicated that the total number of flights across the world is set to rise to 2.52 million this month, up three per cent year-on-year, reports the Independent.
However, the Asia-Pacific region is set to see an even greater increase in the level of air traffic than the global average.
According to the figures, companies such as Air Niugini that operate in the region will boost the number of flights in and out of the area by 12 per cent.
The number of flights taking off from the zone is set to increase by approximately seven per cent, which equates to a rise of 40,000 planes.
Holidaymakers who are booked on Air Niugini flights in September might want to stay in Port Moresby for the Hiri Moale Festival, which features a race of up to 100 traditional Lakatoi canoes.
