Extra trains for Delhi metro ahead of Raksha Bandhan

Flights to Delhi with SpiceJetPeople with cheap flights to Delhi will be happy to hear that the operators of the city's metro transport system will be boosting the number of trains on the network during Raksha Bandhan.

The festival, which is primarily a northern Indian tradition, will take place on Saturday, August 13th and the streets and public transport network are expected to be inundated with revellers.

Metro will also increase staffing levels during the festival to ensure that commuters are adequately catered for.

"Trains will be run at peak-hour frequency from 08.00-20.30 local time on Saturday and over 15 trains, which are normally withdrawn from lines during off-peak hours, will be kept in service," Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chief public relations officer Anuj Dayal said.

Last year, some 1.2 million people travelled on Delhi's public transport network during the festivities.

Raksha Bandhan celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters and is observed by Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims.
