Holidaymakers booking trips to Africa may be encouraged to learn that Ethiopian Airlines is planning to sell a number of its aircraft and upgrade to safer, more fuel efficient models.
The firm is set to get rid of five Fokker 50s and three Boeing 757-200ER planes and start using eight Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprops and a 787 Dreamliner, reports defenceWeb
Its announcement comes just weeks after the European Union banned some airlines from flying in its airspace due to concerns over safety.
Despite selling eight of its planes, the company already has orders for 40 new aircraft, which are due to be delivered in the near future.
Environmentally conscious jetsetters may be encouraged to learn that another of the reasons the airline plans to replace its older planes is to reduce the company's fuel consumption.
This comes after the carrier announced that it has added flights to Milan to its schedule and that these will start from July this year.
