The number of passengers booking flights to Tirana International Airport has increased dramatically in the first half of this year.
Between January and June, the airport's passenger numbers leapt by 23 per cent.
Some 793,984 people used the facilities terminals during the six-month period - setting a new record for the airport.
Tirana's international airport also witnessed substantial growth in commercial and cargo flights.
Officials at the airport told Balkans.com that the increase could be put down to recent liberalisation of the visa process in Albania.
Albanian Airlines was among the most popular carriers chosen by people booking flights to and from Tirana.
The firm, which is one of 14 operating out of Tirana International Airport's terminals, accounted for 9.1 per cent of total air traffic.
Ravin Maharajah, partner of the five-star Lalzit Bay Resort and Spa in Albania, recently claimed that the country was an up and coming destination among holidaymakers.
