CSA Czech Airlines stops UK flights after 72 years

CSA Czech Airlines has announced that its is withdrawing its scheduled services from the UK as at 30th October 2010. CSA's first flight into the UK market was in 1938 and its last flight for the foreseeable future will operate on from Prague to Heathrow on 30th October 2010. The once successful route into Manchester from Prague will cease on 29th October 2010.  In the past CSA has operated services to  seven UK airports from its base in Prague.

The move is part of a large network re-organisation which sees a focus on cost cutting and revenue maximisation. Accordingly CSA will increase the number of flights it operates from Prague to Belgrade, Brussels, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Athens, Beirut and St. Petersburg. On certain routes, Turbo prop aircraft such as ATRs will be replaced with higher-capacity jet aircraft. CSA's winter schedule will include 100 destinations in 44 countries.

It is probable that the pull-out has been caused in part by  the increasingly fierce competition CSA has faced from low cost carriers such  as EasyJet, WizzAir and bmibaby.
