COPA Airlines is set to increase the size of its fleet to 73 planes by the end of 2011, up from 66 at the start of the year.
Holidaymakers booking flights to Panama and throughout Latin America may have more travel options available to them as the carrier adds more aircraft to its flight schedule, reports the Houston Chronicle.
Figures for July revealed that COPA Holdings, the parent company of the airline, enjoyed an increase in consolidated traffic of 21.3 per cent, which may indicate that the carrier is already attracting more passengers on flights to Panama.
Joe Mohan, vice-president of commercial and planning at the company, commented: "We've taken advantage of being in the perfectly located place."
In December this year, COPA Airlines will offer new routes to destinations such as Chicago, Asuncion, Paraguay and Columbia.
It is currently involved in a code sharing agreement with Continental Airlines, which could also increase transport options for those travelling in South America.
