Vacationers planning a break in Argentina this year should consider booking Aerolineas Argentinas flights to the capital to start off their trip.

This is the recommendation of Heather Carswell, spokesperson for Lonely Planet, who described it as a "great starting point" for experiencing the culture of the South American nation.

Figures from STR Global published on June 23rd revealed that there was a decrease in occupancy of hotels in May 2011 of 1.8 percentage points, down to 60.5 per cent.

This could mean now is the perfect time to find accommodation and enjoy a stay in the city before moving on to other tourist spots in the country.

"Iguazu Falls on the Brazilian border is one of South America's greatest natural wonders," said Ms Carswell.

She added that trips to the Patagonian glaciers and towns in the west of the country are "also not to be missed".

However, she warned visitors to the nation to be prepared for long bus rides to get to the various attractions, although Ms Carswell noted that it is also possible to get internal flights, for example with Aerolineas Argentinas.
