Brazils top airlines by size TAM GOL Azul WebJet Trip Avianca

BY THEJOURNEY1972One of the world's fastest growing domestic air travel markets in 2011 was Brazil and amidst the continuing growth in passenger numbers the nation's top six airlines are jocketing for top rankings by percentage share of domestic traffic.

Continuing to dominate the number one spot is the mighty GOL airlines with 37.11% in October 2011, however this is down from the same month in 2010. Coming a very close second is TAM airlines , which is in the process of finalising its merger with Chilean originating airline group LAN, with 36.6%. Third is the fast growing low cost start up, Azul with 9.14% and then Webjet Linhas Aereas with 5.64%, WebJet was acquired by GOL in July 2011 but continues to operate as a separate carrier. Next in terms of market share is TRIP Linhas Aereas which has only 3.8% but as this is almost double its share in 2010 its explosive growth in a growing market has brought new competitive pressures into an already dynamic market. Slipping down to sixth is the renamed Avianca Brazil ( was Ocean Air) with 3.7% of the domestic market, but for the first time it has entered into the international market with flights to the hub of its parent company, Bogota.
