Vacationers with flights to Sao Paulo booked may find it easier to locate appropriate accommodation while visiting the city after the country introduced a new classification system for hotels
Officially approved properties will be ranked using the SBClass system, which will examine the services each establishment offers and give them a star rating, reports the Independent.
The move comes ahead of two major sporting events set to be staged in Brazil - the 2016 Olympic Games and the Fifa World Cup, which will be held in 2014.
Thousands of sports fans are expected to flock into the South American nation on TAM Airlines flights and with other carriers to witness the spectacles.
Resorts will be able to get a four or five-star rating under the new scheme, while bed and breakfasts will be eligible to receive one to three stars.
Sao Paulo will host some of the games in the upcoming World Cup at the 65,000-seat stadium scheduled to be completed in the six months before the start of the competition.
