Star Alliance has announced that it will add Avianca-TACA, the Colombian flagship airline, and Copa Holdings SA from Panama.
The two airlines are competitors on domestic Colombian routes and some international routes.
Avianca-TACA have recently signed a code-share agreement with Lufthansa AG ,one of the founder members of Star Alliance.
Copa is the second-largest domestic carrier in Colombia having absorbd AeroRepublica and changed the name to Copa Airlines Colombia . Copa mainly serves Central America, the Caribbean and some destinations in the U.S. and South America from its hub in Panama City.
