LAN Airlines has relaunched its new affiliate in Colombia, Aires as LAN Colombia with the result that it now serves 23 new destinations including Cartagena, Cali and Medellin from Bogota. This now makes LAN Colombia the second largest airline in Colombia after the mighty Avianca Airlines. Avianca currently operates Domestic, regional and international services including Colombia to Spain (Madrid and Barcelona). in 2010 LAN purchased Aires and before this week's rebranding integrated the airlines schedules into the much larger network operated by LAN throughout South America, LAN Colombia is still much smaller than Avianca which holds almost 70% of the domestic flight market, but the newly branded airline is now an integral part of a much larger group which includes LAN Peru, LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador as well as the original parent from Chile, LAN Airlines.
