I am off in a moment to meet with Astraeus Airlines, a UK carrier which rarely appears in the headline of ticket sales, but which performs many flights for other carriers not least amongst many is the ever- popular Iceland Express.
I know that I will get a completely different view of our industry from them. As a sort of wholesaler dealing in whole aircraft leases, rather than individual ticket sales, they tend to get an advance view of what's likely to happen in the future and what capacity is being put where to satisfy un-met demand in seasons ahead. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say. Report to follow.
Update: Warm reception, and interesting dialogue. Astraeus doesn't face the passenger in a commercial way and hence can focus on handling the the complexity of aircraft operations.. which it clearly does extremely well ! Long term aircraft leases to major airlines, Hajj flying for top Middle Eastern Carriers, winter world tours for the heaviest metal rock bands plus acting as the transport arm of Iceland Express give them more than enough business for the mixed fleet of (mostly) Boeing and Airbus aircraft. A great business model and a very professional management team.
