Buy AirJapan flights with Alternative Airlines

AirJapan is a low-cost airline based at Narita International Airport in Japan. It was initially founded in 1990 as a charter carrier, then relaunched in 2022 as the long-haul low-cost brand of the ANA (All Nippon Airways) Group.

Between 1990 and 2010, AirJapan operated as a charter airline and then a scheduled carrier under the ANA Group. It eventually merged with ANA and JP Express in 2010, ceasing operations under its own name. It primarily operated flights within Asia but offered some European routes, with a fleet of Boeing 767s.

The new AirJapan brand was launched by the ANA Group in 2022. It used the same name and the existing Boeing 787 aircraft as the previous AirJapan, but operated as a separate entity with a different business model and branding.

In March 2023, ANA announced that AirJapan would be operating flights to and from Southeast Asia at the beginning of 2024. It will carry out these routes with a fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Destinations

The airline will operate mostly Asian routes, however, it is not yet known which destinations it will fly to until the airline has officially launched.

AirJapan currently operates flights to:

  • Tokyo, Japan
  • Seoul, South Korea
  • Bangkok, Thailand

Baggage Policy

Carry-on Baggage

Passengers are allowed to take two pieces of carry-on baggage - a personal item and a cabin bag.

The personal item could be a small bag like a purse, laptop bag or a backpack, not exceeding dimensions of 40 x 30 x 25cm.

The cabin bag needs to be able to fit in the overhead compartments and therefore cannot be larger than 55 x 40 x 25cm.

The maximum combined weight for carry-on baggage is 10kg.

Checked Baggage

On a Standard fare, passengers can bring one checked bag not exceeding the maximum weight of 23kg and dimensions of 158cm in total across the three dimensions.

With the Comfort fare, passengers are permitted 2 pieces of checked baggage, each not exceeding the maximum weight of 23kg or dimensions of 158cm.

If passengers choose the Basic fare, free checked baggage isn't included and will need to be purchased as needed.

Cabin Classes

AirJapan only offers one cabin class - Economy. This aligns with the airline's low-cost carrier model, focusing on affordable long-haul travel without the complexities and costs of multiple cabin classes. Economy Class is split into 3 fare types.

Basic Fare

Basic Fare is the most affordable option with AirJapan. Checked baggage isn't included.

Passengers will need to pay extra for additional services like seat selection, meals and in-flight entertainment.

Standard Fare

With the Standard fare, one checked bag is included. Seat selection is available as well as one basic meal.

Comfort Fare

Two checked bags are included with this fare. Passengers can also enjoy priority boarding, wider seats with extra legroom and all meals included.

Check-In

Online Check-In

AirJapan offers online check-in.

Online check-in is available 24-48 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart. It is accessible via AirJapan's website or mobile app.

This allows you to print your boarding pass or download it to your mobile device.

Airport Check-In

If you're unable to check in online for your AirJapan flight, you can check in via AirJapan's dedicated check-in counters at the airport. These open approximately 2-3 hours before the flight is scheduled to depart, and close 45-60 minutes before takeoff.

We recommend arriving at the airport at least 2-3 hours before your flight - this will allow you enough time to check in, clear security and reach your boarding gate.

Food and Drink

Food and drink may be available on AirJapan flights depending on the fare type that has been purchased.

  • For passengers with a Basic fare, no free meals are included. Snacks and beverages are purchasable via the in-flight menu.
  • Passengers with a Standard fare are given one basic meal, usually a light lunch or dinner depending on the flight time.
  • The Comfort fare allows passengers to enjoy a hot breakfast, lunch or dinner option, as well as snacks throughout the flight.

Passengers in all fare classes will receive complimentary hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks such as water, coffee, tea and soft drinks.

AirJapan has an extensive "Tasting Japan Series" menu that features a variety of Japanese snacks, meals and beverages available for purchase on board. Alcoholic beverages are also available to purchase, including beer, wine and sake.

AirJapan is a member of the Star Alliance network, of which ANA is also a member.
