About Fiji Airways

Air Pacific was the flag carrier airline of Fiji and was based in Nadi, Fiji. Air Pacific operated international and domestic services to 17 cities and 10 countries around Oceania. Qantas Airways was Air Pacific’s second biggest shareholder at 46%.

The airline was originally founded in 1947 as Katafaga Estates Ltd but was renamed to Fiji Airways in 1951. After the founder's death in 1958, the airline was acquired by Qantas. In 1970, Fiji gained independence from Great Britain and was renamed again to Air Pacific. However, in 2012, it was announced that the airline would rebrand to Fiji Airways which is what it still is currently.

Baggage Policy

As Air Pacific no longer operates under this name, the current information is for Fiji Airways. Whether you're flying Business or Economy will impact how much carry on and checked baggage you'll be allowed. If you're flying to the US or Canada, the baggage policy will be slightly different.

Carry-on Baggage

As Air Pacific no longer operate under this name, the carry-on baggage is the same as that for Fiji Airways:

Economy class passengers are allowed one piece of cabin baggage. This must be a maximum of 7kg in weight, and fit within the dimensions of 55 x 40 x23cm. In addition, passengers are allowed one personal item free of charge. This can include items such as a laptop bag, handbag or blanket.

Business class passengers are allowed two pieces of cabin baggage, each weighing a maximum of 7kg. Alternatively, passengers are permitted one piece of hand luggage weighing a maximum of 14kg. Cabin luggage must fit within the dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25cm. In addition, passengers are allowed one personal item free of charge. This can include items such as a laptop bag, handbag or blanket.

Checked Baggage

As Air Pacific no longer operates under this name, the checked baggage is the same as that for Fiji Airways:

Economy Class passengers are allowed 23kg of checked baggage.

For Business Class, passengers are allowed 40kg of luggage, unless travelling to or from the US and Canada, where Business class are allowed up to 3 pieces of luggage totalling no more than 30kg.

When travelling to Honolulu, passengers travelling economy class are permitted 23kg of luggage. Business class passengers are allowed 30kg of luggage.

For passengers travelling domestically, the baggage allowance is reduced to 15kg.

Cabin Classes

Air Pacific offers an Economy Class with a few different fare options. These fares give passengers added extras, such as more flexible cancellation and change policies. However, regardless of the fare chosen, the inflight experience is much the same.

Economy Class

Each passenger is given access to the in-flight entertainment system, where passengers can enjoy a range of the movies and television shows, with children options included. Air Pacific's in-flight entertainment system also has the latest hits, which are free to listen to.

Economy Class Seating

Economy Class offers comfortable and spacious seats. Seat formations are set out in the following formations, depending on the route flown:

  • 2 x 4 x 2
  • 2 x 2
  • 3 x 3
  • 1 x 2

Business Class

Air Pacific offers two types of Business Class fares, with a more restricted option 'Saver' and a more full option 'Plus'. Although, the type of fare chosen doesn't have an effect on the in-flight experience.

Business Class Facilities

Business Class passengers can enjoy a special service, delivered by the airline's expertly trained Business Class cabin crew.

Before the flight, passengers are given a larger baggage allowance as well as priority check-in and boarding and access to the exclusive airport lounge.

During the flight, Business Class customers can enjoy a three-course meal from the airline's Business Class in-flight menu. This comes accompanied with a wine menu, spirits, liqueurs and an array of cheeses.

Business Class passengers also have access to the airline's in-flight entertainment system, with a personal monitor fitted to each seat.

Passengers are also treated to a Business Class amenity kit.

Business Class Seating

The Business Class cabin is at the front of the aircraft with its own separate cabin. Seats have extra recline, but don't lie fully-flat. Each seat is fitted with a socket which can be used for charging electronic devices.

Business Class seats are set out in a 2 x 2 x 2 formation.

Check-In

Air Pacific now operates under the name Fiji Airways. The following information is shown for Fiji Airways check-in information. Online check-in is available from 24 hours before departure, and closes 4 hours before departure. International and Domestic flights airport check-in time varies. This is also affected by which cabin class you choose to fly.

Online Check-in

Air Pacific offer online check in through their operating name, Fiji Airways. Online check-in open 24 hours before departure, closing 4 hours before departure. A link to Fiji Airways online check in can be found here.

Airport Check-in

Air Pacific airport check in times are the same as the for Fiji Airways. To complete airport check-in, head to the Fiji Airways counter.

For international flights, airport check in will open 3hours before departure time, and close 1 hour prior to departure for economy class, and 50 minutes for business class.

For passengers flying domestically, check-in opens at least 90 before departure time. This will close 30 minutes before departure.
