Air Comet stops flying...

Air Comet stops flying...

Following hard on the heels of the demise of British Independent carrier, FlyGlobespan, the Spanish privately owned airline, Air Comet has now also stopped flying and is entering into bankruptcy proceedings. Once upon a time the European airline market was alive with many relatively small independent airlines, often backed by holiday companies and usually  with a energetic entrepreneurial personality at the helm. Few of these now remain and even the biggest of the independents are entrenched into heavily defended niche markets where their product and service offering are heavily tailored to the very specific needs of the people they carry.

Air Comet was never a great carrier, but for a time it was good at what it did and it's owners  were ambitious enough to buy the Argentinian National carrier, Aerolineas,  before handing it back to the Argentinian Government earlier this year. We are sorry to see the passing of Air Comet and - even though we give close support to other great carriers, such as Air Europa and Avianca, who will quickly and effectively fill many of the market gaps -  more stranded passengers at Christmas is another tragedy that the airline business cannot afford and should not hav happened.
