Africa 'is starting to recognise the benefits of tourism'

Travellers may be tempted to book flights to Kigali in light of one expert's assertion that African nations are starting to recognise the benefits they can reap by improving their tourist industries.

Flights to KigaliDr Taleb Rifai, secretary-general for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNTWO), said at a recent event in Istanbul that the sector can boost job creation and exports.

His comments come after figures from the organisation's new World Tourism Barometer report revealed that international arrivals to sub Saharan Africa increased by 13 per cent in the first two months of 2011 compared with the same period the previous year.

"This news is particularly positive for emerging economies and developing countries, especially in Africa," he stated.

With African nations starting to improve their tourism sectors, adventurous jetsetters may be tempted to book flights with Rwandair to take a trip to visit some of the nation's attractions, such as the Nyungwe Forest, which is home to a variety of primates and other fauna.
